After the great success of the previous two editions in 2009 and 2010, the "Kobe Design University" (Japan) is back at Red Fish Factory. 8 last year students and graduates of the department of textiles and fashion present their work. www.sensitiveskin.jp

Sensitive Skin
Dit is het thema dat de studenten als opdracht voor hun eindwerk kregen. Na de aardbeving met een tsunami en een nucleaire ramp kreeg dit thema nog en extra betekenis: de gevoelige huid van de kwetsbare mens en hoe hij zich kan beschermen. Precies een half jaar na de ramp mogen we uitkijken naar de creatieve resultaten.

Kobe werd in 1995 zwaar getroffen door een aardbeving. Dit jaar bleef de stad van de ramp gespaard door zijn zuidelijke ligging op het grootste Japanse eiland Honshu. De Kobe Design University is een hypermoderne inrichting, die enorme mogelijkheden biedt zonder de oude Japanse tradities uit het oog te verliezen. Tijdens hun studies maken de studenten kennis met het vervaardigen van garens en stoffen op oude en moderne weefgetouwen. Verven, stofbewerkingen en -verfijningen zijn eveneens Japanse specialiteiten. Traditionele technieken die gebruikt worden als basis voor hedendagse kleding. Associaties met origami, inkttekeningen en aquarellen liggen voor de hand.

Vrijwel ieder bedrijf heeft een website. Te vaak is het een doel op zich. Jammer, want het zijn de (potentiële) klanten die in de kou blijven staan. Zij willen op een snelle en overzichtelijke manier info krijgen. En dan komen ze terecht in een jungle van webteksten. Met een eenvoudige vingerbeweging zijn ze weer weg. Een slechte indruk blijft hangen.
Wil je weten hoe je een indruk maakt die blijft hangen? Eén van onze leden, Tom Torremans, zal op dinsdag 15/09 bij ASPACE een workshop “schrijven voor het web” geven.

Dialogues is een groepstentoonstelling van de studenten van het atelier MKNU (Monumentale Kunsten Nu) van de Academie voor Schone Kunsten te Antwerpen (KASKA dko). “Dialogues” tracht dialogen aan te gaan met andere kunstenaars, de omliggende buurt , de anderen, de stad, enzovoort. Voor elke deelnemer van dit project zal de concrete invulling van het thema “Dialogues” verschillend zijn, en vooral aansluiten bij zijn of haar persoonlijke leefwereld.

Deze tentoonstelling vindt plaats het laatste weekend van mei en het eerste weekend van juni 2011 in de Red Fish Factory, Helmstraat 139, Antwerpen.

MKNU: is de avondopleiding Monumentale Kunsten NU (MKNU) aan het deeltijds kunstonderwijs (dko) aan de Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen (KASKA). Dit atelier is een soort laboratorium waar niet gewerkt wordt met een vooropgesteld medium, maar waar het medium het gevolg is van een zoeken naar een beeldtaal. Het uiteindelijke werk kan daarom ook vele vormen aannemen, van conceptuele kunst tot installatiekunst, tweedimensionaal, sculpturaal, performance, werken met licht, geluid, tijd, enz.

Arteco organiseert in samenwerking met Coalface, Arti-Mista, Fondazione 107 en Red Fish Factory ee

n uitwisselingsproject voor jonge en beloftevolle kunstenaars. Turijn en Antwerpen (en bij uitbreiding de Limburgse Mijnstreek, Coalface) zijn kenmerkend voor hun migratiegeschiedenis. Het zijn kleurrijke regio's waar allochtonen en autochtonen samen zoeken naar een eigen identiteit temidden van een specifieke realiteit.

Dit project wil enerzijds een blik werpen op deze migratiegebieden en op de identiteit van migranten. Anderzijds wil het project waarde toekennen aan de innovatieve rol van de kunstenaar en wil het jonge kunstenaars een kans geven om in dialoog te gaan met anderen. Een workshop in Turijn en één in Antwerpen zal dit aspect van ontmoeting en van samen creëren benadrukken.

26 kunstenaars werden via een wedstrijd geselecteerd. Deze kunstenaars hebben allen een diverse culturele achtergrond en zijn actief in verschillende kunsttakken: fotografie, schilderkunst, muziek, dans, fashion design, installatie, performance, etc. Dit resulteert in twee tentoonstellingen met als titel ‘Terre di immigrati ed emigranti/Lands of immigrants and emigrants' (‘Migratiegebieden'). De eerste expo gaat door in de huidige

jongerenhoofdstad, nl Turijn, en de tweede tentoonstelling vindt plaats in Antwerpen, de Europese jongerenhoofdstad in 2011.

the cultural association L’artiMiSta has been teaching ballet, modern dance and contact improvisation since 2001. at the same time it is working as a professional ballet company and they also work with Fabio Viana, ambra Senatore and the dancers: Martina guidi, Chiara Marchi e Paola Carbone. recently dancer Florian Lasne, singer rossella Cangini and elena Pignata (ombra di foglia) joined the company.

They won the choreographic contest “Mantovadanza” in 2008 and the “Concorso internazionale di Pinerolo” for emerging talents in 2007 and 2008. in 2008 regione Piemonte, Lazio e Campania sponsored the company for the project “spaziperladanzacontemporanea” and, in the same year, it took part in the avignone off competition. they collaborated in 2007 with “Project rettilario” directed by Paolo Mohovich. By now the choreographer daniela Paci is teaching at Bella hutter’s in torino, at “institut de danse classique” in aosta and at “officina della danza”. She showed her projects at Pretendanse Festival organised by Corinne Lanselle in Paris, at encore Festival in Montreal and interplay Festival in torino, organised by natalia Casorati. She took part in many projects in europe, and she won many solo contests in France.

in 2008 the company joined the project “dimore coreografiche” with “mappazerosette”, that has been presented at teatro garibaldi in Settimo torinese with “Menzogne della notte” and raffaele irace during the oltremo(n)do night. “Menzogne della notte” has been also presented in Moncalieri in March 2010. the company has been invited to Mantovadanza 2009 and 2010 and interferenze di taranto 2010.

in the project “torino-anversa: andata e ritorno” they will perform with three musicians: Cecio grano, giorgio Bevilacqua and daniele Mana.

The project “Torino-Anversa: andata e ritorno” was born to allow a formative exchange between young artists working in Turin and Antwerpen (visual artists, musicians, fashion designer, performers), to offer them the chance to actively work with their colleagues in their own ateliers and to interface and connect artistic experimentation between present and future European Youth Capital. The two exhibitions, presented at Fondazione 107 in Torino and Red Fish Factory in Antwerpen, aim to promote the outcome of transnational cooperation and dialogue.

POINT OF VIEW WINDOW

Een venster is de grens, barrière tussen binnen en buiten, tussen privé en openbare ruimte. Door een venster kijk je naar buiten of je bent nieuwsgierig naar wat er binnen gebeurt. Het huis waar je woont bepaalt je manier van kijken naar de wereld. Tegelijkertijd kan je niet verdragen dat mensen binnen kijken omdat je je privacy wil beschermen. Daarom gebruiken we luikjes of gordijnen. We schermen ons af. Tegelijkertijd willen we laten zien wie we zijn aan de buitenwereld. In extreme gevallen is een raam een etalage waar de aandacht van de voorbijgangers wordt getrokken.

Ik teken met getinte olie of zeep op vensters, waardoor ze ondoorzichtig worden en het zicht erachter op sommige plekken verborgen wordt. Maar tegelijkertijd speelt de werkelijkheid achter het venster nog een rol, door de gaten in de tekening. Op verschillende momenten van de dag neem ik foto’s van deze tekening waardoor tijd en licht een rol spelen. De animatiefilms zijn daar een resultaat van. In mijn foto’s leg ik mijn blik vast, en richt daarbij ook de blik van de kijker. De tekeningen zijn een symbool voor de belemmeringen om te kijken.

De ruimtes worden nu ingevuld met tentoonstellingen, showrooms en mensen met creatieve beroepen.
In het midden van het gebouw werd het dak van een magazijn verwijdert en een centrale patio gecreëerd die van de aanpalende units omgeven is. De patio is een mooie binnentuin die van de 4 units gebruikt kan worden voor pauzes, meetings en recepties en om gemakkelijk te laden en lossen.

The piece is entitled “The Girl Who Sold Her Soul To The Devil And Won” (the story of Amanda Lear's album "Sweet Revenge"). The bollocks are replaced by men's heads because the male brain is controlled by the balls. The newly arisen girl is not programmed anymore by sexual manipulation. The caterpillar sheds the old life and metamorphoses into a butterfly. The butterfly, no longer enchained to earth as before, gains total freedom... The world is now her oyster!

NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS: HERE’S AMANDA LEAR serves as the vehicle for an exhibition which consists of paintings by Amanda Lear and the work of nine contemporary artists.

This international and multidisciplinary exhibition in which the artists are actively involved, reintroduces the childlike games and spirit of the Dada and Surrealist movement by using a popular motive which acts as a playful interrogation of Amanda Lear. Conceptual confusion, symbolic representation and ordered geometry are all part of an ingenuous fragmentation united by nine contemporary artists.

Drawing heavily on what has been written about Amanda Lear, as well as on the images that have been spread worldwide, Amanda Lear served as the wellspring of the imagination and the home of inspiration for the artists.
Continued thought processes and investigations on the subject became a means of reuniting conscious and unconscious realms of experience so completely, that the world of dream and fantasy has been joined to the everyday rational world in an absolute reality, a punk surreality.
